A short story

It was a sunny day in May. My school organised school competition. This event took place at a local stadium. There were not only a lot of students who take part in this championship but also five referees and our teachers.

Our team prepared competitions in five sports disciplines: baseball, cycling, hammer throw, table tennis and volleyball. There were approximately 100 contestants. The first competition was cycling. The participants must bestride race about 20 kilometres. When cyclists started distance, a lot of people was standing near the road to cheer them on.

The average speed was 40km/ h, and everyone wanted and tried to win. Everyone competed but Tom Angel was in the lead. He had only 2 kilometres at the blanket finish and he was exhausted when suddenly, one of supporter, a little child, run across the road. The cyclist was dispersed, and he tried to go around him because he didn't want to hit him. Unfortunately, Tom plummeted. It was a very dangerous situation for both of them. The child was scared and started crying and Tom had a small scratch. Tom, of course, didn't win a competition, but he wasn’t sad. After this situation, he went with a little boy and his parents to eat a big ice-creams.

,,A Dangerous Creature’’

A short sory about "dangerous creature".

It happened during last summer night in August. The moon was shining and there are a lot of stars in the sky. We went to the Tatra Mountains for a night trip. We wanted to organise this excursion earlier, but we did it barely then.
That night we dressed suitable clothes, took a blanket (if the weather would be bad, we’d be able to warm up in the mountain refuge), made a food and took a torch of course. We left the hotel after twilight. We hadn’t known yet that we would meet a ,,creature’’.
Each of us had only a torch, which light show us a good way. The men told us (women) a horrible story about ghosts, zombies and other strange ,,dangerous’’ creature. They wanted take fright us, but we know their sense of humor and it didn’t make an impression on us. Suddenly we heard some weird sound in the depths of the forest. We scared but we tried keep calm. What would happen if we met a bear?! The steps become louder and louder. After a few seconds, from behind the tree jumped out the reason for all the confusion – small ginger squirrel. It was our ,,dangerous creature’’.
Tom horrify shouted when he saw her. Everyone laughed without him. It was shocking to us because he always was brave and self- confident. After all attractions, we came to the hotel in the morning. It was an unforgettable night. We love that journey and now we are planning next night outgoing.

,,The Great Beauty"

This week I watched a film ,,The Great Beauty” directed by Paolo Sorrentino in 2013. The film took place in Rome and the main character is a journalist Jep Gambardella. After his 65 birthday he finds him in self-reflection between past and the future. He is convenient that anything is certain in life and people aren’t  able to find the goal of their life. Jep found out absurd of his previous life and it is a sad reality for him. He also wants to write his second book, but he can’t find the topic of it. People in this movie want to find the place where they belong but it isn’t so easy. In this film, we can see also beautiful places in Rome and in general the beauty of life- places, people, clothes and luxury. I really recommend this film!

,,Gomorrah"

Hello,

Last week I watched a film „Gomorrah” directed by Matteo Garrone in 2008, based on the book ,,Gomorrah” written by Roberto Saviano. The film tells the story about mob from Naples which is called Comorra. The movie shows five different people whose lives are connected with a crime organisation. We can see how this crime world function. For that people from Comorra don’t exist law. They are brutal,  ruthless and the only value in their life is money.

It’s a true story of these ages but it’s really hard to believe that all these situations still happen these days. It isn’t only a fiction story from the past.  The clique from Naples killed a lot of people who were ,,obstacles” for them. During watching the movie I was shocked of same scenes but I have to say that the it was very interesting. I think that everyone who wants to know how works  the world of mafia should see it.

,,Bee movie"

Hello,

Last week I watched an animated film „Bee Movie”, directed by Simon Smith, Steve Hickner and Stephen Hickner in 2007. The film tells a story about bees’ life. The main character is a special bee-Barry B. Benson. Barry has just graduated from college and he found out the truth about his future prospects- he had to work in the same work for the rest of his life, making the honey. Once during a special trip outside the hive, he met human- Vanessa and during a visit to a supermarket with her, he discovered that people actually eat honey and he decided to sue them….It is a comedy for all family. I really enjoyed this movie. There are a lot of funny moments for kids and adults. The film shows us and child that bees live their own life like humans. I think it’s one of the best animated film I saw.

Road accidents claim far too many lives. What can be done to reduce this problem?

         We live in an age where almost everyone has a car and it causes more and more road accidents where someone dies. For this reason, people have to make all their best to reduce the number of road accidents. To resolve this question all people should be more careful and attentive on the road; drivers can not overestimate their driving abilities and the quality of infrastructure should be improved.

         Firstly, every road user (drivers, pedestrians, cyclist, etc.) has a duty to be careful on the road. For example, car drivers should not use their phones while driving and pedestrians should not listen to music on the headphones during the walk on the street. If we respect this principle we would not create the possibility of hitting someone with the car or running into somebody’s car.

         Another useful suggestion will be adapting speed to weather conditions and to all circumstances on the street. Rain, fog or bad visibility at night are the main problems for drivers. We have to remember that not only our driving skills influence the road safety. It is a good idea to make use of this advice because we will be able to avoid different kinds of road difficulties.

         The problem of people who die in road accidents could be resolve also by improving the conditions of infrastructure. The better condition of streets, sufficient number of bike paths, pavements and crosswalks will be very useful for all road participants. Developing this question, everyone will be able to move around in way dedicated only to a specific group (pedestrians, cyclists, etc.).

        To sum up, there are many ways to reduce the number of road accidents. Developed infrastructure, being more attentive on the road and adapting our drive skills to the weather help us to prolong our life. If we respect all these aspects above we will be able to avoid possibilities to die in the road accident.

Money talks

Hello, 

I listened to a podcast Money talks from series GrownUpLand in BBC Radio 4. At the beginning children talked about their point of view for money and then Mae, Bisha and Ned talked about different aspect of money, for example, can we buy happiness or should we spend money, save it or try not to think about it?
When journalist told a subject of new conversation the first reaction of Ned was quite depressed because he had lost his job and he said it was difficult for him to change his material situation. Another speaker was Bisha. She works as a freelancer, and she has to control her spending. The last speaker was Mae who spent a lot of money, and she thinks with money we can’t buy happiness but it is possible to buy things which make us happy. During this conversation, Ned found out that when he was working as an accountant he spent more money for things that he didn’t need, for example for big lunches.
Often shopping is a kind of therapy. People feel better when they buy something new, even something small and cheap. It makes them happy.
The another aspect of this conversation was dedicated for future jobs. 65% kind of work of the future doesn’t exist now.  According to Bisha 5 jobs will be very well-paid in the future: body part maker, nano-medic; vertical farmer; child designer and a haptic programmer.
Then they talk about different ways to save money, for example: we can go for a walk, hang out with a dog, play with our children. At the end, they tried to help people with their financial problems.
This week, money makes Mae feel sick, Bisha investigates the jobs of the future and Ned tries to stick to a budget.

,,Death in Venice"

Hello,

Last week I watched the film ,,Death in Venice” directed by Luchino Visconti in 1971. The movie is based on a novel by Thomas Mann. The plot is about composer Gustav von Aschenbach who travels to Venice in search of repose and his artistic inspiration. There, in seaside resort, he was attracted to a polish adolescent boy- Tadzio. The boy was for him the ideal of beauty and the composer gazed at Tadzio from afar. It was platonic love and end of this story is very sad. Gustav died suffered cholera (it was epidemic in the city).

The movie is about art, beauty, longing, death. Some scenes are slow, others simply annoying to watch, but this film is considered to be a masterpiece of Visconti. It’s a movie which we should see more than once to understand the whole message of the film.

,,Eight and a half"

Hello,

This week I watched another film of Federico Fellini- „Eight and a half”. It was directed in 1963. It’s a movie about filmmaking and it tells a story of film director who tries to find a subject of his new film. Everything is ready except for Guido (the main character). The film is a perfect balance between fantasy and reality. Often it was hard to say what was a true story and what was only in Guido’s head. Also, this masterpieces of Fellini is really complicated to understand for the spectator. Maybe even more than „Ginger e Fred”.

,,Ginger and Fred"

Today I would like a write something about the film which I watched last week. This movie is „Ginger and Fred” directed by Federico Fellini in 1986. The film is about Amelia and Pippo, two performers the old music-hall act. They imitated American dancers Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers on a TV show. Amelia and Pippo are reunited after several dozen of retirement to perform in a bizzare television show. Fellini shows television like grotesques life where happen weird things. It’s satiric attack on television and the modern time. The plot is interesting although at some points is complicated and unclear.
The film is one of the Fellini masterpieces and I’m recommending it.

What people do usually at the seaside?

Every year a lot of people choose village at the seaside to spend their holidays. There is a fresh air and it has a positive effect on our health. There are a lot of things to do.
First of all, being at the seaside we can totally relax, just by looking around- nature, sea, beach, landscape. Secondly, it’s a perfect opportunity to swim and to sunbathe, but it’s important to use suntan lotion to avoid sunburn. Thirdly, we can build a sand castle. It allows us to return to our childhood. Then, it’s obligatory to taste a local dishes. For example, fishes are always fresh and tasty. In the evenings people can meet each other, they can dance, sing songs together etc.
To sum up, seaside is always a good destination to spend there holidays.
